Stones

Can you believe it? D only went and abandoned me for almost a whole week. I know disgraceful behaviour, how dare he? He did though, he upped and left with his best mate! And did they just pop to the pub? No. No they did not, they drove all the way to Scotland, and when I say Scotland I am talking way, way north to the mountains. I'm still not convinced that their Gretna Green stop was really just a refreshment break, but neither of them seems to have come back wearing a wedding ring, so we'll just let that one lie.

So just over a week ago, off he pops to Bonnie Scotland whilst I was left home alone to cry and feel sorry for myself. Not really. I utilised the time to meet up with friends in coffee shops. You didn't really expect me to sit home pining did you?

I had a ball meeting up with another band wife on the Thursday. Honestly, it was so nice to just chat, rather than shout over the music. Friday I met up with a mum from the girls old primary school and my word, how much tea did I drink. We were in the coffee shop for over three hours! Now that is what I call a catch up, and the obligatory bacon sarnie was just a little bit yummy.

So whilst I was having a catch up with friends, D was in Scotland doing what in my eyes can only be considered the single most crazy thing possible. He was spending the weekend running, cycling and kayaking (across Loch Ness) from one side of the country to the other...as you do.

Neither of them had kayaked before and I was kind of hoping they might get a helpful push along from the elusive Nessie, but apparently she didn't think they were terrible enough to have to help them out.

Whilst the boys were away, D and I exchanged a few messages, but that was it. To be honest I didn't really want to know exactly what they were going to be doing, even I may have worried. Far better to know after the event when he's home safe and sound. I really didn't need to know that he'd slipped/ fell down most of the mountain on the second day's run. He came home in one piece and that was really all I cared about...well that and knowing he'd had an awesome time with his best mate.

Anyway, back home safe and sound, if not a little sore, stiff and very tired, I get a gift. Now, I was not expecting a gift of any kind. The boy has just finished a gruelling two days of physical exercise on the Rat Race, Coast to Coast (I'm not supplying a link for you, if you are particularly crazy I'm going to trust you to find your own way to their site. I am not taking any responsibility for any of you nuts signing up for next year's event) so gifts should have been non existent, but no. I really am a very lucky girl to have such a thoughtful man. I was warned not to get too excited because it wasn't that amazing. He was lying. Well I think he was lying, you may not, I may just be very easily pleased. I'll let you make up your own minds; and so without further ado, I present to you, what I consider to be an awesome gift...

I know they just look like stones with writing on, but I have one from the East Coast starting point and one from the West Coast finishing point and do you know what, this is the most thoughtful and meaningful gift he could have given me, well apart from the enormous hug I also got. These 'stones' mean a lot to me because it's a part of D's adventure, an adventure, which I can assure you, I will never join him on; I'm just not that crazy (or fit).

Of course, he has now set a precedent, so I will be expecting more stones to add to the collection when he returns from the next crazy adventure.

  2. What a great gift. I collect stones from different places, but never write on them. Much better idea. Glad he had a good time, and you too. His adventure sounds awesome. I'm no way fit enough but in my head I'd love to do it.

  3. Hi Lisa, he's a keeper! Those stones show just who he was thinking of at the start and finish of his adventure. I agree it does sound like a crazy event, but what a wonderful experience it must have been for the pair of them.

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.

  7. This reminded me of a time long ago when my son won a competition for a painted pebble, he turned it into a ladybird and placed on a leaf#thatfridaylinky@_karendennis

  9. The stones are a lovely reminder. I collect a stone from every beach we visit and write the name on and date so that we can display them in a jar and think of all the fun times. #bloggersbest
