Celebrating Wednesday's #20

I took the week off last week, I do hope the lack of Wednesday Celebrations didn't ruin your week too much; you're a bright bunch so I'm fairly sure you managed to find something to celebrate anyway. However, here we are back again and ready to celebrate something really special to me, something almost as special as sloths, but not quite.

So without further ado, please get ready to celebrate this weeks very special day...

Remembering Dad's on Mother's Day

It's Mothering Sunday, the day where we say a big thank you to our mum's and hopefully get spoilt rotten, if we happen to be a mum. Up and down the country there will be mum's who have received flowers, chocolates, breakfast in bed and numerous other gifts and kind gestures and rightly so. Mum's are important people, we cook, we clean, we clothe; we take the role of nurse, teacher, taxi driver and counsellor. Let's face it, being a mum is a job with many roles and huge list of required skills, so getting a little bit of recognition once a year is lovely.

National CSE Awareness Day 2017

Today is National CSE Awareness Day. For those of you not aware, CSE stands for Child Sexual Exploitation. Written down in its full form it's a terrifying combination of words which should never need to be put together, but sadly it is a very real danger and one which can, and does affect many young people and their families.

Young people from all walks of life can become victims of CSE, boys and girls, and yes, even children from nice, well adjusted families. The most frightening part is the control that their abuser has over them, so as parents it is vital that we know what to look out for, so that if we are unfortunate enough to come across it, we are able to tackle it in it's early stages.

Pushing Me Away (or Dear Curry's PC World)

Before you get too excited, this is not a post about relationships of any kind. No it's far less interesting than that. However, it has left me fuming, or it would do were I not so laid back, I'm just a little bit frustrated.

So my laptop is working, but it's not quite what it was and it really will need to be replaced soon. With this in mind, off I pop to Curry's PC World. Well I say that, I did a fair bit of online research too, but wanted to actually see the laptops, before making a decision and hence, I find myself writing this post, which shall take the form of an open letter...

Celebrating Wednesday's #19

Here we are again, another Wednesday, another excuse to celebrate something. What will it be today, well let me tell you, today is going to be just a little bit different. Today we are not celebrating just one carefully chosen theme, but four.

Each week there are several themes I can choose from, and out of those, there is always one that really shouts at me, but not so this week. This week, none of them is really saying, write about me, I'm fun, different, quirky and so, I present to you this week's celebrations...

The End of a Chapter

I'm not sure if I should be writing this post or not. If I'm completely honest, I don't actually know how this post is going to turn out. I've no idea what I want to say, or how I want to say it, but my head needs clearing out and the way I do that is to write. Writing is, for me, a creative outlet, but also a therapeutic tool; so I suppose it stands to reason that I would feel the need to write at this time.

As a general rule, my posts are always very clear in my head. I know what it is I want to say and I have a very good idea of the shape it will take. So right now, I feel like a fish out of water and I'm just trusting my fingers to hit the right keys and produce something that is vaguely readable and well, hopefully won't be a load of mumbo jumbo.

School Run Fun (or not)

I don't know about you, but I'm generally pretty organised and laid back. I have a set morning routine that has served me very well over the years. And, over those years, I have developed it to incorporate time for 'emergencies' so that we never actually leave the house late for school (even though, I tell the girls we are on occasion, running late). However, hard as it is to believe, other people do run late, I know, shocking isn't it?

Tea and Teens

Tea! I love it, I drink rather a lot of it. If you are a regular reader, you'll know how important tea is to me. If it snows, I'll panic buy tea bags. If I've run out of milk, I'll drink it black. If I'm bored, I'll put the kettle on. I really am a complete and utter tea addict.

I also love having visitors and, being the good English Rose that I am, I always offer tea to my guests, or the other stuff, you know, from the dark (which in my opinion should never be drunk, but instead used to make cake). However, offering tea has become a bit awkward of late.

Celebrating Wednesday's #18

Welcome to Wednesday! Congratulations, you have made it to the half way point in the week, so pop the kettle on and take a short break to reward yourself. Whilst you're sitting there with tea (or coffee) in hand why not hang around for a bit and find out what is special about this Wednesday.

There was an awful lot to choose from today, most notably, International Women's Day, but I have chosen not to write about that, although please do check out the website here to learn more about this very important day. Given that so many of us are bloggers, there really was only one day I could write about...

My Accidental Purchase

Have you ever been on a shopping trip and ended up buying something you really hadn't intended to buy? Come along now ladies and gents, be honest, I'm sure you have. Perhaps it was a new bag, or yet another pair of shoes that you really didn't need, but they were just so pretty, you had to give them a new home. Maybe you wandered into the Apple Store and came out with the latest iPhone. However, I'm going to hazard a guess that you haven't done as I did, because I made quite a spectacular accidental purchase.

Celebrating Wednesday's #17

Happy Wednesday lovelies! I cannot believe that not only is it Wednesday, but it is also March, so not only do we have a Wednesday to celebrate, but we have a month too! Yay! However, let us first find out what we will be celebrating today, 1st March...

Why I Blog

Back in September 2016, I wrote a post entitled I'm a Blogger?, it was a few months into my blogging journey and I was just beginning to acknowledge that I had, indeed, become a Blogger. Looking back, it seems strange that I had trouble in acknowledging that fact, but at the time the whole blogging world was still a huge and scary place to find myself. Today, it remains a huge world, but it's no longer scary.

Not Again!

It been a little while since little orange me has done any writing for you. I so sorry. It been really busy here. I not know why, but my girls were at home for a whole week, couple of weeks ago. Mummy said it was school hollibobs, or something like that. Anyway, them was out so much and me had no idea what was going on.

Celebrating Wednesday's #16

Hello again. It's so lovely to meet up like this every week, I do hope you're sitting down with a nice cuppa, or a coffee if you prefer. I must confess, I am not a coffee drinker at all. For me it has to be a nice big mug of tea, though I could manage a slice of coffee cake with that, just to appease all you coffee lovers out there.

Anyway, lovely as it is to chat about tea, cake and coffee, we really should get down to business and find out what we are celebrating this week.

Everything is Orange

Okay, so perhaps I am exaggerating just a little bit, but everywhere my Little Orange Doggy goes, there seems to be a fine coating of orange hair left behind. It doesn't matter how much time we spend brushing out that loose hair, there is always more left to fall out on the furniture. Thankfully, I have leather sofas so it's easily brushed off then hoovered up, the car on the other hand is a whole other story.

My Cat Hates Me!

You may or may not know, that as well as our Little Orange Dog, we also have a little black and white cat, named Sparkle. Sparkle is a tiny cat (she weighs around 3.5kg) and is very timid. She loves to be brushed and when her stomach tells her it's feeding time, is a very vocal little cat. She's also a little confused. I'm not entirely convinced that she knows she is a cat. Let me explain a little more.

Dear Terri (or A Letter to the PM #2)

Dear Terri,

Well here we are again, me writing to you, you not replying. It's fine, I'm not upset, I know you're very busy. You really have got your hands full with this running the country lark; rather you than me. Is it what you expected it to be? I suspect not. I suspect you thought you'd be having some lovely girly chats over a civilised cup of tea (served in bone china cups and drunk with pinky sticking out) with that Hilary girl. Still, you seem to have made friends with the Orange one quite easily.

I got a lovely e-mail from your offices the other day saying that your Orange friend will be visiting Blighty, and will be meeting our super lovely Queen. I'd really rather you weren't inflicting the school bully on our lovely Queen, but you seem to have made your mind up.

Now I realise that this is your new friend and you're probably looking forward to his visit, but I am very apprehensive about it. I'm not sure this 'special' friendship is a very positive one. Let's be honest, Terri, your new chum, is well, shall we say high maintenance. I've had to reduce the amount of time I spend watching the news or visiting the good old BBC News website because your friend is there, all the time and, quite frankly, he's not at all endearing. I do hope you're planning on teaching him some good old fashioned manners before you inflict him upon Queenie, otherwise I fear the corgis may show their displeasure and pee up his leg, or just bite his orange ankles.

However, since he is popping over could you let me know what the etiquette for greeting the Orange one will be. I know it's a way off, but I like to be prepared. Should I bulk buy orange paint from Homebase now so I can literally paint the town orange?

Also, will I be expected to partake of the bad spray tan and don a dodgy blond wig? If you could possibly arrange the visit for October time, that would be fabulous. I know your friend was a little disappointed with the low turn out for his inauguration, so I was thinking we could make up for it when he visits with thousands of these little chaps...

What do you think? If you give us enough notice, we should be able to rally the troops, so to speak, and give them different expressions.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for the kind response from your offices, it's always a real boost to know that you do indeed listen to the people and whilst I may not be happy that you are going ahead with a full state visit, I completely understand why you are unable to do a u-turn. Hence I am now fully embracing it, so if you could get back re my queries, that would be rather fab.

Lots of love and hugs,

Little Orange Dog

To Selfie or Not

I'm not going to lie, I really, really dislike selfies. That's not to say there are no 'me' selfies, but they are few and far between and are usually with my girls, not solo. The brutal truth, for myself at least, is that once you get to a certain stage of life, those selfies are not so flattering as they used to be. You of course, may be totally different and look abso-blooming-lutely fabulous, but I much prefer to have someone else holding the camera.

Celebrating Wednesday's #15

Here we are again, in the middle of another week, half way through the school half term holidays. I hope you're having a fun week with the children. We've been doing lots and still have plenty to do, so the week really is flying by for us.

However, let's get back to the reason why we are here, which is to learn what this Wednesday is celebrating and today it is...

Tea for One

Last week, I did something, I have never done before. Yes, I stepped right out of my cosy little comfort zone, complete with it's soft furnishings and soothing music and headed out in to the big scary world, in the hope of becoming a strong, independent woman. Who am I kidding? That is never going to happen. I may be strong, some of the time, I am certainly independent, to the point of being plain stubborn, but a woman? Nope, never, I will always be an overgrown teenage girl! Well I say overgrown, I'm not even that, most teens are far taller than me, but hopefully you get the idea.

By now, you are probably thinking, 'For goodness sake, would you stop waffling and just get to the point!' I apologise, I am very good at going off on a tangent, it's just the crazy way my brain works.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea

Have you ever had one of those moments, where something seemed like a really good idea, only to find it was the complete opposite? I have quite a lot of these moments, but when you add my inherent clumsiness into the mix, you have a recipe for potential disaster.

This morning, saw me get into another rather sticky situation, and to date, it is probably one of my best, or should that be my worst clumsy moments, thus far.

Celebrating Wednesday's #14

Hello everyone, thank you so much for coming back each week. It seems almost crazy that we are already celebrating the second Wednesday of February. Also, because we are in February and I care about you all, and don't want you to get into trouble, don't forget next Tuesday is Valentine's Day. If you are planning on celebrating, best get organised this week. Anyway, back to Wednesday.

What Is It?

Well there me is, asleep on the sofa, again. Me love to sleep on the sofa, and if me must say so me self, I is a very cute Little Orange Doggy when I having a snooze. Mummy says that when me has a little sleep, me sometimes move my legs. Her think that I am having dreams about running. Me not know what dreams are, but they sound fun!

Sunday, 5 February 2017

Only in My Dreams!

I have a lot of dreams, many I don't remember, some that I do and others that are so vivid, I remember them for years; like the one where I was being chased around the living room by a giant wooden pelican. I have no idea why the pelican was wooden, nor do I know what it was doing in my living room, but I do have a bit of a bird phobia, so perhaps something was worrying me at the time.

Then there was the one I told a snake off for trying to eat a person. It really was a very naughty snake.

Anyway, the one thing that is certainly true of most of my dreams is that they are usually very, very odd. So this morning when  my alarm very rudely woke me up, I was a little put out because I was having the most fabulous and crazy dream of the year; thus far at least!

Celebrating Wednesday's #13

I can't believe where the week has gone to. I'll be honest, I hadn't even realised that it was Wednesday today, then I had a sudden panic because I hadn't got my Wednesday post ready. Eek! However, as you can see, I've managed to pull myself together and here we are Celebrating our thirteenth Special Wednesday.

The Green Eyed Monster

Would you look at this poor wee chap, he is so jealous of his monster friends he has turned a rather strange shade of green and his eyes are all over the place. He's probably trying to look at everything that's going on, all at once in an attempt to make sure he's not missing out, or else he's coveting something that someone else has. Anyway, whatever it is that's made his eyes so wonky, it's not a good look. Envy is not a good look!

A Letter to the PM

Dear Terri,

I do hope you don't mind me calling you Terri, but it just seems so much more friendly, don't you think?

Anyway, you are probably wondering why I am writing to you; actually, you probably are not, because let's face it, you're hardly likely to be reading my blog, you have far more important things to do. One of which would be having play dates with your new bff.

Now, Terri, I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but your new bff? NOT good! You see, not all that is orange is good. Here is a list of good orange things (and super lovely redheads), it should help you.

  • Little Orange Dogs
  • Orange citrus fruit
  • Carrots
  • Pumpkins and Butternut Squash
  • Marmalade
  • Red Squirrels
  • Robinson's Orange Squash
  • Nicole Kidman
  • Prince Harry
  • Ed Sheeran
  • The orange Smartie (it really is the best one in the tube)
These are good orange things and good auburns (I confess to feeling rather put out that I did not inherit the auburn gene as my aunt and cousin did, but there you go, we can't have all we want).

Your BFF may be orange, but he is not good. Terri, just look at his one week track record, would you. He's not doing well on the human rights front is he? Perhaps you are a little confused, waterboarding is not like surfing. I won't explain it to you other than to say it's a form of torture, which is not kind. Not letting in refugees fleeing war torn countries, also not kind.

The wall thing is interesting too. If you get the Lego out on one of your play dates, beware, I hear he has a habit of wanting to build walls and then expecting other people to pay for them. Keep your pocket money well hidden and beat a very swift retreat at the first sign of a wall. Do try not to step on the Lego as you make your escape though, it is flipping painful!

He's done and said lots of other horrid things too and I am very concerned that he is not a good friend. Terri, sweetie, please find a new friend, one who is kind and cares about all people, one who is not the school bully. Alternatively, take a leaf out of one of your predecessor's books, do a Maggie and put him firmly in his place.

Lots of love and hugs,

Little Orange Dog

Celebrating Wednesday's #12

Hello and welcome to week 12 of Celebrating Wednesday's. I hope you've had a fabulous weekend and are getting ready for the next one to roll round.

This week could be the most fun day of the year, or the worst day of the year, depending which side of the fence you're sitting on. So, I apologise to those of you, whom like me, are probably not going to enjoy celebrating today, but to those of you whom are real jokers, have a blast. Today we are celebrating...

Warming Up

This is how I would like to be relaxing tonight, but I don't have an open fire, so I will have to look at this picture and dream. Although, I do have something much better to keep me warm because I have a Little Orange Dog and he is currently sitting on my chilly little feet, kindly warming them for me. He is very adept at foot warming, it is one of his many talents, another being writing blog posts.

Cold Paws

I'm not so sure about all this winter stuff. That strange fluffy white stuff has gone away, but when Mummy takes me for my 'out' my little paws are getting very cold indeed and Little Orange Me does not like it. I not dislike it enough to not have my 'out' though. Me likes my 'outs', but me just prefer the ones where it is warm and the big yellow thing is in the sky.

Going Nowhere!

There's nothing quite like a nice sunny Sunday morning is there? It really is beautiful out there today and even though it is freezing cold, that winter sun is still a real mood lifter.

On a normal Sunday morning, I would be heading off out of the house around 10.30am to go to church, however, today is a bit of an exception. Following a very late night on Friday and a busy day yesterday, we are all in need of a very well deserved rest. The timing of which couldn't be better, you see today, I am going nowhere; even if I wanted to, I couldn't because my car is well and truly blocked into it's cosy, little garage abode.

Celebrating Wednesday's #11

Here we are again, another middle of the week, another day to celebrate a special Wednesday and I must confess to be just a little bit excited about this one as I am a bit of a fan.

Today, the special day we are celebrating is...

Tuesday, 17 January 2017

Fluffy White Stuff

I not really sure what is going on this week. It has been a cold week and one day the sky dropped lots of white stuff all over the place! Me think there must be a big doggy in the sky somewhere because it looked like someone had made a big hole in there favourite plush toy. Me know, because that is what Little Orange Me does with my favourite Burgers.

Blue Monday

How are you feeling today? I'm feeling rather happy and may even have a bit of a spring in my step. However, it would seem that today, many people are not happy because today is the most depressing day of the year, apparently. Today is Blue Monday.

So if you are feeling a little blue because you're under the weather, or the weather is just too cold and grey; if you're trying to shift those extra, post Christmas pounds, or your pounds sterling have taken a battering now the credit card bills have landed with a thud on the door mat, here are a few good blue things to hopefully cheer you up a little.

Hello Weekend

I know the post title is a little bit late, but I have had a super, wonderful, busy and fun weekend; so much so, that I haven't had time to sit down and write about it, which should probably be considered a good thing.

It all began with a text from Dr. BD on Thursday night, asking if he could come over the following evening. He was obviously pining for me, who wouldn't? Not really, I don't think he would ever actually pine for me, but of course we miss seeing one another during the week so the weekends are very special. As it turned out I was child free for a wee while this weekend so, Dr. BD and I decided to have a 'proper' date.

Driving Snow

When we finally sat down at 9pm last night and tucked in to our McDonald's whilst watching 'Death In Paradise', I for one was exhausted, as was Miss. L, who took herself off to bed as soon as she'd demolished her Happy Meal. You see, we had been in the car for four hours, give or take a bit and driving was not the easiest task last night.

Let me explain, one of the girls needed to be at a club last night, no problem. We knew that we would be hitting rush hour so gave ourselves just under an hour to get there. Ordinarily, I would have left a wee bit later, but given that it had been raining all day, I figured the traffic would be horrendous. The rain lashed down and it was super chilly out, but we were dry and warm in our little car. Then I noticed the rain looking a bit, fluffier...hmmm sleet. That's okay, I thought to myself, we'll get there and home before the snow sets in. The return journey to collect said child, may be a little dicey, but it's so wet there's no way it will settle.

No sooner had we pulled into the car park than we were treated to a deluge of snow. Not light fluffy, flakes, floating down and gently landing on the wet surfaces before quickly melting away; no these were huge fluffy flakes and were falling so heavily, I can only imagine Queen Elsa had well and truly lost her temper and 'Let it Go', like she'd never done before. Within ten minutes, the surface of the car park was beginning to turn white and the kids were having a ball running around in it.

The plan, prior to snow, was to drop off, return home, eat then go back out after a nice little sit down, to do the collection (note to parents, it is not socially acceptable to leave children at clubs, even in severe weather, you must collect them). As we were driving home, very, very, slowly, I realised that my plan may well be in jeopardy. When, eventually, I pulled on to the motorway, and it was impossible to work out where the lanes were, I conceded defeat. So, it was a slow trip home, a quick change of clothes (Miss. L was still in school uniform) and then back out.

Ever optimistic, I figured we would at least have time to go to a McDonald's near the club and eat before collection. Pulled back on to the motorway, conceded defeat yet again. Clearly, the weather thought I didn't need feeding as it wasn't helping at all, and I wasn't sure if we were on the hardshoulder or in an actual lane. It took us an hour to get back to the club venue and the girls decided that they would rather go straight back to our hometown and go to our local McDonald's, They really were worried we would get stuck and not be able to get home. So that is what we did, and that is why we were eating so late.

When I opened up my laptop and logged into Facebook, my newsfeed was awash with 'snow' photos. On any other occasion I would have enjoyed looking at them, but having spent four hours, and a few rather scary moments in a car, trying to drive in it, I wasn't really up for it and just logged off. Yes everyone, it did snow, quite heavily actually, but please spare a thought for those of us (of which there were many) whom were driving in it. It really wasn't fun and I really do not 'Want to Build a Snowman', I just want to drink hot tea.

Celebrating Wednesday's #10

This week is one which we in the UK, should hopefully be able to fully get on board with, our little Island is after all, known for it's rather generous helping of rainfall.

Living Life to the Max!

Hello, it's been a funny old week. My doggy walks have been very unsatisfactory, because Mummy has been coughing so much and as for my naps, well she kept waking my up from those too. It is very annoying, I am only a Little Orange Dog and I really do need my beauty sleep. Especially after I have spent so much time chewing my burger toy. Me made a hole in it, but Mummy gave me my new one, so me started chewing that too.

This week I have been a bit of a pickle. One of my girls had a friend round for tea. I like when my peoples have friends for tea, sometimes them drop their food on the floor and me gets to clean the floor by eating it up. Friend didn't eat all her chips from the yummy chip shop and when Friend went home them leave the chips all wrapped up in a bag by the door. It was very kind of them, when they came back (to fetch the chips, mummy said) me said a great big thank you. I had such a lovely full tummy.

Mummy laughed, so me think it was okay, but her did say that Little Orange Doggies are not meant to eat people food, it is not good for them. It tasted good though.

Today, Mummy took me to school in the morning. I like it when she takes me, I get to have a different walk and sniff the different smells. I really like the smells by the duck pond and sometimes the children say hello to me. I like that too, I get so excited when the children talk to me and I wag my tail super hard. Today was very exciting though. My favourite people was waiting in her car. Miss. L took me to say hello and I nearly wagged my orange tail off! I got picked up and cuddled and me kissed my best people friend with my little wet nose. And do you know what? No you will never guess, me got to do something that me has always wanted to do...

...yes, this Little Orange Doggy got to drive the car! Mummy never let me drive, I not know why. I was very good. See I am even looking at the road and me made the horn say hello to everyone too. I not sure that I was doing it right though, because the car didn't move. When Mummy drive, the car moves. I am confused, but I had a lot of fun and me got to cover my BFF in orange hair. I is such a lucky doggy, not many doggies get to do driving. Woof!
